General Electric U25Bs

The MEC acquired fourteen of these locomotives from the Rock Island Railroad that the Rock Island was not going to rebuild, but were in need of rebuilding. Of the group, nine were rebuilt and the rest used for the parts and scrapped. I have pictures of two of them.

The U25B series was built between June of 1959 and February of 1966, weighs 252,000 lbs and uses a 4-cycle model FDL16 diesel prime mover that develops 2500 hp, and 75,800 lb of tractive effort, and carries 1700 gal. or 2900 gal. of fuel. My thanks to The Diesel Shop for the information.
